The scenery is at one of
its most beautiful in the Lake District around Easter. Mile and miles of
daffodils still out, blossom making way for fresh green leaves and fresh,
spring Lakeland air. The first lambs of the years have just been born in
the Lake District but many will still being born around Easter and the
fields will be full of these tiny little animals. Daffodils have a great
connection to the Lake District due to Wordworth's poem "Daffodils". -
I wandered lonely as a cloud - That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd, a host, of golden daffodils; - Beside the
lake, beneath the trees, - Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
It was the daffodils around Ullswater that inspired Wordsworth to write
this hugely famous poem.
So for a romantic break,
Ullswater is ideal coupled with some of the best lake District hotels in
the area. |
Ullswater is the second largest
lake in the Lake District at a length of 8 miles. The lake is surrounded
by some of the most beautiful scenery in the area and is a very popular
place to stay for walkers wanting to tackle Helvellyn, Highstreet and Fairfield.
The Coast to Coast walk goes through Patterdale with the Patterdale YHA
situated on the route.
| For less adventurous walkers,
there are many lower level, less strenuous walks such as the lovely Hallin
Fell walk. It is approximately 3 miles long and of the same distance, the
Aira Force Walk. Aira Force is the most spectacular waterfall in the Lake
District and the beautiful walk through a leafy glen is wonderful.
For families, Ullswater is
ideal. Water sports a plenty as well as the Ullswater Steamers. The steamer
boat has been operating on Ullswater for 150 years and allows visitors
to travel from Glenridding up to Pooley Bridge and back. Lake District
hotels in the area don't get much better and some even offer children's
breaks allowing parents to enjoy the luxury of a hotel experience as opposed
to always self catering or camping. These speciality children's activity
breaks in Lake District hotels offer various activities organised for the
children as well as for the whole family together but keep some time for
the parents to enjoy a few hours on their own. |
