Wonderful
Experience in Ethiopia!
I and my 12 students from
Ohio State University had a very wonderful educational trip to Ethiopia.
We did what we intended to do in western and southern Ethiopia....
Why
Now is the Perfect Time to Visit Mexico
I remember when the swine
flu broke out in Mexico City. I was living in Guatemala at the time, and
had a vacation planned for the Chiapas beach town of Puerto Arista....

Hunting
Unusual Holidays? Book Flights to Ahmedabad
Sitting on the banks of
river Sabarmati, the sprawling city of Ahmedabad mesmerises visitors with
rich slices of its Hindu, Mughal, and Colonial historical legacies. This
thriving business hot spot has always managed to grab attention....

Canned
Tuna In The Sky
On my last flight, as I
watched the 10 year old safety video from my airline’s monitor above
the row in front of me, I ponder the collective expressions of the actors/employees
who are portraying passengers in case of an emergency.... |

The
Big 5 in 45 Minutes!
It was about 4 o'clock in
the afternoon, we had just had a yummy high-tea and were setting off for
the afternoon game drive. In the front of the lodge were two old buffalo
bulls (dagga boys), enjoying the coolness of the water. While watching
the buffalo, two elephant bulls came down for a drink. My guests took some
stunning photographs of the wallowing buffalo with the elephants in the
background....
Failing
Passport Control
No matter how innocent and
good I am. No matter how many times I travel outside the country; when
I go through customs or a passport control, I feel like I’m a fugitive
on the run. Yes, I have accepted the fact I’m one faux pas or mispronunciation
of the word “declaration” away from a border patrol officer sending
me to a Turkish prison to star in the squeal..oops-transpose that-I mean
sequel to “Midnight Express”....
Passage
to India Part 1 - My Father's Flight to India in 1934
In 1934, my father's
commission in the RAF ended, and he joined the Bristol & Wessex Flying
Club at Whitchurch as an instructor having been a flying instructor in
the RAF. His first pupil was Lady Blanche Douglas, the sister of the Duke
of Beaufort and the widow of the late George Scott-Douglas. She wanted
to learn to fly so she could fly to India in a new Miles Hawk Major she
was in the process of buying and wanted my father, Micky, to be her
co-pilot...
Doing
time without the crime
Yes, my perception is tainted.
My travels for work spoil me with lovely hotels in great cities. However,
some hotels should not be occupied, but donated to prisons for overcrowding.
It's supposed to be a home away from home, not the equivalent of doing
10-15 hours in a state penitentiary....
The
Flight of the Wannabe
Sometimes the in-flight
movie isn’t the most entertaining event on an airplane. On my way back
from the Miami, I observed a lady, who has been sighing and “tsk tsking”
with disgust ever since she was overlooked for a first class upgrade, and
had to sit in the first row of coach....
Motorcycle
Diary --- Cycling in Oaxaca, Mexico
My longtime passion for
riding a motorcycle took a twenty year hiatus until taking up residency
in Oaxaca. I ignored the foreshadowing and warnings. While my story pales
compared to the epic journey of Ché Guevara popularized in the film Motorcycle
Diaries, there is a tale to be told, with observations and advice for those
with such suicidal ideations... |
